Candyland

 Meredith gave the girls Candyland for their birthday.  We tried this game a few times and Delilah was not keen on following the rules.  She wanted to play with the pieces and the board...but HER way! 

So we recently broke it out again...success!

Obstacle Course

Step 1:  Three turns on exercise machine. 

Step 2: Climb over and under the rope. 

 Step 3: Climb on the stool and jump off onto the pillow.

  Step 4: Jump over the pillows.

Step 5:   Climb onto the table and shimmy onto the exercise ball. Roll over to the red spinner seat. 

Step 6: Spin around 3 times in the seat.

Step 7:  Roll under the rope.

Step 8:  Step onto chairs and jump to finish line. 

Note:  After I set this up, modeled what to do, photographed and played about a dozen times with them I left for them to continue on their own.  I was soon called down by the girls who had set up their own version for me to do and Delilah photographed the whole thing as I did their obstacle course.

Clam Bake

The many activities that we love at the Botzer Clambake.  This was their 40th!!

• They have a whole child area with toys & a bounce house that the girls stay in for hours.  

• They have horseback rides.

• They have games for kids (You've seen this game recently, right?  hint:  #4 bday)

• They have a prize table with oh-so-many choices.

•  They have hay rides.

• They have tons of food...clams (raw & steamed), clam chowder, sloppy joes, salt potatoes & corn-on-the-cob.  Guests have to help husk and then the geese get to chow the husks.

• They also have karaoke...maybe we'll start practicing for next year. 

This was a first for us as well...Marmy and Papa came for the girls (treated them to unnecessary ice cream, fireworks & a movie) so that Ezra and I could actually spend some adult time.  I mean, I actually got to sit and talk with Beth & Mark!  Can't wait til next year. 

B-day #4 Overview

Games:

I decided to organize two games for the little ones.  We were anticipating an age group of about 1 to 11, so I knew I had to make it basic.  A lot of people suggested pin the tail on the donkey...but I just could not bring myself to do that one.  To me it felt dated...but after reading about a different version of it {with a princess spin on it for my princess-loving girls}, I was sold.


Kiss-the-Frog:

Kids were blindfolded and spun three times.  Addison went first and was waaaay off course.  Delilah was second and you can see above what a great shot she had.  Then some big kids got smart and used their hands to feel around.  (Note to self:  a rule to not feel around is needed).  Then Nilo, our youngest guest at one year and ten days old, had a turn (w/o blindfold) and directed his dad just where to go (after observing he knew just what to do).  We had a tie...Delilah and one of the older girls...so both winners received some gummy worms as a prize.

Donut On a String:

I wasn't sure about this one.  I anticipated biting on and gobbling it down.  Not the case.  This was hilarious for all...participants and observers.  The main idea:  eat the donut without using your hands.  They couldn't get the donuts to stop bouncing around.  And they were all so intent on trying.  Even Nilo wanted it (of course it was a sugary, yummy donut that he just wanted to grab)! It couldn't really be a race.  Some finished, some didn't until I gave the okay to use hands.  Then we passed out popsicles to help wash them down.

Playtime:

This was really what the kids wanted.  Just to play and run around.  And that let the adults just chat and visit.
